In my four years as an active duty Marine I secured the fence line separating the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay from communist Cuba, was a member of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit projecting the military might of the U.S. throughout the Mediterranean Sea, visiting many NATO and former Soviet/Warsaw Pact nations. In my last year as a Marine, I was promoted to Corporal and led a squad of Marines. As a U.S. Marine I learned the value of discipline, responsibility, honor, and perseverance. I learned to think quickly and to take charge in times of crisis. It is those traits and experiences that I have taken forward and use every day.
